Rare Pictures of Young Swami Vivekananda


Vivekananda (born) Narendranath Datta (shortened to Narendra or Naren) at his ancestral house at three Gourmohan Mukherjee Street in Calcutta, the capital of British India, on 12 January 1863 during the Makar Sankranti celebration. He belonged to a traditional Bengali Kayastha family & was one of nine children.His father, Vishwanath Datta COMMAPUNC's an attorney at the Calcutta High Court. Durgacharan Datta, Narendra was grandfather COMMAPUNC's a Sanskrit & Persian scholar who went his family & became a monk at age twenty-five.  Narendranath's involved spiritually from a tender age, & accustomed to contemplate before the pictures of deities such as Shiva, Rama, & Sita.His mother, Bhuvaneswari Devi COMMAPUNC's a devoted housewife.
The progressive, rational attitude of Narendra was father & the religious inclination of his mother assisted shape his philosophy & personality. Narendra's naughty & restless as a child, & his parents often had difficulty controlling him. His mother said, "I begged to Shiva for a son & he's sent me one of his demons". 
He's fascinated by wandering ascetics & monks. In 1871 Narendra enlisted at Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was Metropolitan Institution, where he learnt until his family shifted to Raipur in 1877.
In 1879, behind his family was return to Calcutta, he's the only student to get first-division marks in the Presidency College entrance examination. He's also involved in Hindu scriptures, incorporating the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata & the Puranas. He's an good reader in a wide range of subjects, incorporating thinking, religion, history, social science, art & literature.

Narendra's educated in Indian classical music, & frequently participated in physical exercise, sports & organised activities. Narendra learnt Western logic, Western thinking & European history at the General Assembly was Institution (now known as the Scottish Church College).

In 1881 he passed the Fine Arts examination, & completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1884.
Narendra learnt the earns of David Hume, Immanuel Kant, Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Baruch Spinoza, Georg W.F.Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Auguste Comte, John Stuart Mill & Charles Darwin.
He became fascinated with the evolutionism of Herbert Spencer & corresponded with him, translating Spencer was book graduation (1861) into Bengali.

When studying Western philosophers, he also learned Sanskrit scriptures & Bengali literature.
William Hastie (principal of General Assembly was Institution) wrote, "Narendra's really a genius.
I have travelled far & wide However I have never come across a lad of his calibre & possibilities, even in German universities, among philosophical students".
few accounts have called Narendra a shrutidhara (a man with a prodigious memory).
